Biology, chemistry and physics are separate subjects with separate teachers from Year 7, and every lesson happens in a laboratory. A science lesson taught in an ordinary classroom is a lesson about science.
Pupils do the practical work themselves rather than watching a demonstration. That means more breakages, more time spent on method, and fewer topics covered per term than a scheme of work would like.
The sixth form has a small research programme: two afternoons a week, working on a question nobody in the department already knows the answer to.
