A school you can walk into on an ordinary Tuesday
An independent day school for 4 to 18, on forty acres of parkland.
Next visit Autumn concert 14 November 2026, 7.00pmWe are not trying to be the largest school, or the one with the longest list of facilities. We are trying to be the one where a child is known by name by everyone who teaches them.
Four hundred and twenty pupils, an average class of eighteen, and a staff room where the head of maths knows which Year 8 is having a hard term.
What they will actually be taught
-
Mathematics
Years 3–13Set by attainment from Year 8, with movement between sets every term rather than every year.
-
English
Years 3–13Whole texts, read whole. No extract anthologies before Year 10.
-
Sciences
Years 5–13Taught as three separate subjects from Year 7, in laboratories rather than classrooms.
-
History
Years 3–13Sources first. Pupils meet the evidence before they meet the narrative.
-
Music
Years 3–13Every child learns an instrument in Years 3 and 4, provided by the school.
-
Games and physical education
Years 3–13Everybody plays. Teams are picked so that everyone gets a competitive fixture.
The people who will teach them
Most of our teaching staff have been here more than a decade. That is not a boast about loyalty; it is why a child who is struggling in Year 9 is taught by someone who remembers them in Year 7.

The whole calendarCome and see a normal working day
We do not put on a show for visitors. Open mornings run while the school is teaching, and you are welcome to ask any pupil what they think of the place.
